Becoming A Member

If you have been attending recently as a visitor, or looking for a church to call home then join Pastor C. J. and others for these opportunities to become a member.

December 4, from 7 – 9 PM

December 10, from 10 AM – Noon

Come to the library (through the Church Office front door) for an opportunity to meet others and hear what God is doing in our midst! We have resources for spiritual growth and direction, as well as information on how to be involved in the life of the community through service. If you need nursery or childcare services we can provide them – we ask that you notify the church office at 954-972-3424 or email to let us know if you need childcare services for either of these events.

We encourage all people to profess their faith in Christ, and be affirmed in this decision – the resources we provide and special Sunday services recognizing new members and baptisms allow us to support you during this time of reflection and decision. Though no mater where you are on life’s journey, know that you are welcome here. If this is not a good season for you to become a member please continue to participate as fully as you are able in the life of Cokesbury.

If neither of these dates work for you, but you still want to join, please email Pastor C. J. directly.

Ways of Becoming a Member

Confession of Faith

The initial entrance into membership in the Church when you confess faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and commit to growing as a fully devoted follower of Jesus through active participation in the ministry of the Church.

Reaffirmation of Faith

Renewing your initial confession of faith after a period of inactivity. No one is perfect, so don’t allow yourself to think you are unworthy of going to church because you haven’t been in a long time. After all, church is not a museum for saints, it’s a hospital for sinners.

Transfer of Membership

If you are new to Margate, welcome! The United Methodist Church has an open door policy for accepting membership from all Christian denominations, not just the United Methodist Church. We also recognize baptisms from all Christian denominations, and practice open communion for visitors who may not call themselves Methodists – we all worship the same Lord and Savior, Jesus.

What It Means to be a “Member”

The church is a community, and every member commits to being actively involved in the life of the church by supporting it through prayer, presence, gifts, service and witness. In being part of the Cokesbury community you already enrich our life together and contribute to our ability to fulfill the call to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

We understand full membership, like any healthy relationship as a give and take. When each person pledges to give something of themselves to Christ’s church we are all blessed. We hope you experience your involvement as a blessing, and we look forward to being further blessed by you as you affirm your commitment to Jesus Christ through full membership.
